lets bring the tin back in!

I remember first seeing this idea on TV, some snippet about growing your own vege garden, and noticed that all the herbs were in old tins..mainly old oil tins but the idea really grabbed me. You could use whatever you can get your hands on, its recycling at its best, and I think it really makes a statement. My new goal: collect enough to line a shelf in my kitchen with gorgeous vintage tins, filled with beautiful smelling fresh herbs :-)

  1. Get your hands on some storage containers. If you'd like to use vintage tins, you can usually find these at  markets, antique stores, eBay or even your very own garage. If you'd prefer to use a traditional pot, go for it!
  2. For herbs to stay healthy, good drainage is a must. Make sure you have drainage holes in the bottom of whatever containers you'll be using and drill them if you must.
  3. Plant herbs in a nutrient-rich soil.
  4. Herbs love to soak in the UV rays. Make sure they have access to direct sunlight for at least 6 hours a day. If you're keeping your plants indoors, kitchen windowsills are often a good bet.
  5. Water sparingly. Herbs can succumb to fungus and decay if they're watered too regularly. Only water when the soil feels dry to your touch.
  6. HAPPY PLANTING!! :-)
